RickRoute, an auto and cab fleet management product with a live GPS map and realtime tracking, is live in production and operated by Ubikon itself. The hard parts of this sector — continuous position streams, dispatch state machines, drivers in dead zones on low-end Android hardware — are problems we engineer for, and the realtime-tracking core is running live in our own product today, not in a pitch deck.

Realtime position streams are a running cost, not a checkbox

Every driver phone holds a socket open, polls GPS and spends a prepaid data plan to keep that live map moving. Ping frequency, batching and adaptive throttling have to be engineered deliberately — the naive one-update-per-second design drains batteries by lunchtime and runs up server and data bills for the privilege.

Drivers go through dead zones — the app cannot fall over

Coverage drops on highways, in basements and across large parts of any emerging-market delivery route. The driver app has to queue position updates and job-status changes locally and reconcile when signal returns — without duplicating stops or resurrecting cancelled jobs. Offline tolerance is an architecture decision, not an error toast.

Dispatch is a state machine, and two dispatchers will race

The moment two dispatchers can see the same idle vehicle, one of them will eventually double-assign it. Assignment must be an atomic, server-enforced state transition — pending, assigned, en route, completed — with a UI that can lose the race gracefully. Get this wrong once and the ops team stops trusting the board.

Low-end Android phones and addresses that are not addresses

Driver hardware in Indian and emerging-market fleets is often a sub-$150 Android phone, and stops arrive as landmarks — behind the temple, third gate — rather than geocodable strings. The app has to stay light on weak devices, and the system has to treat a driver-corrected pin as more authoritative than the geocoder's guess.

Will a driver app work on cheap phones and in patchy network coverage? +

Yes — that is a baseline requirement we design for, not an add-on. Driver apps target low-end Android hardware, and position updates and job-status changes queue locally and reconcile when connectivity returns. Flutter, part of our mainstream stack, fits driver apps well because one codebase can be tuned for weak devices without maintaining two native apps.
